Gold Watcher

The Gold Watchers (sometimes called The Watchers) are some of the many enemies in Dark Deception. They make their first appearance in Chapter 2, and are the main enemies of the level "Deadly Decadence".

Info[]

Appearance[]

The Gold Watchers resemble a male human partly made of gold, and seen wearing periwinkle grey 18th-century French uniforms, complete with a strap, bowtie, cravat, and tricorn hat, with intricate patterns of gold woven on them.

All Gold Watchers have the same look, with wide smiles, and are sometimes seen saluting. Some of their other poses consist of pointing, waving, shushing, and sometimes brandishing axes.

When killing or at one of their stationary poses, their mouths open wide and extend downward, revealing large, blocky teeth, and their eyes dilate and narrow, as if they are screaming. Their faces also appear to be marred with cracks.

Once the Watchers go into a Nightmare Mode, their eyes will glow red and their clothing change color to that of a dark slate. Their skin will also turn to a much darker shade of gold. (Note that their skin will sometimes glow turquoise in dark rooms.)

Personality[]

Not much of their personality is known, other than that they are insane, gleefully sadistic and used to be very greedy in life. They love to taunt the protagonist, by laughing, and even saying "Psst" before jumpscaring them. One thing we do know however is that they want to use the power of the ring piece they have, to create more watchers by bringing the other statues to life by using it. They view Doug and any other visitor of the mansion as "peasants". This is expressed by several plaques in the mansion stating things such as "Peasants shall serve." and, "He who has gold makes the rules."

Story in Dark Deception[]

Chapter 2[]

Deadly Decadence[]

The Gold Watchers first appear in the "Deadly Decadence" level, as the primary enemies of the Manor map.

Unlike the other enemies, the Gold Watchers will only move if Doug isn't looking in their direction, requiring him to be careful with how often he looks away. Due to always chasing after Doug without a voluntary reduction in speed, this makes them incredibly aggressive and persistent while chasing Doug.

Despite this, the Gold Watchers always slow down near Doug, meaning they can be outran at normal speeds. When stunned, the Gold Watchers will lean back and face up with their hands cupping their heads. Once their stun period is over, they will not move from this pose until Doug looks away from them again.

Intro[]

Before the first act of the level starts, one Watcher can be seen saluting on a statue stand. Once Doug passes the statue and towards the gate, his laugh is heard. If Doug chooses to turn around, the Watcher is seen staring at him. Once the gate is opened, he disappears from the stand while Doug's back is turned, presumably in the maze now.

Once Doug is inside, the watcher can be heard laughing right before he starts his pursuit.

Act I[]

Three Gold Watchers will follow Doug through a hedge maze. When they move, they will laugh or growl depending on their proximity to Doug. Doug's best chance to survive is to stay away from and look at them as well as to try to get them all together. They will despawn once Doug collects all the shards.

Act II[]

Four of them will follow Doug around the Manor, working the same as before. However, there is now three 'fake' Gold Watchers. These fake watchers will work like the normal ones, but they will stop after getting close enough to Doug, although they will still kill him if he gets too close. Outside of this, the many corners within the manor makes it far more easy for the watchers to corner Doug, forcing him to use his teleport to get around them, albeit carefully.

After Doug collects all the soul shards, Malak and three Gold Watchers will spawn at the entrance foyer of the Manor, guarding the ring altar. The original 7 despawn once Doug is killed.

Final Act[]

After Doug reaches the courtyard, a large amount of watchers in Nightmare Mode (approximately 10) will be waiting for him alongside Malak and a Titan Watcher, as well as one Gold Watcher guarding the secret file in the northern part of the hedge maze who will also aid in catching Doug even if he doesn't go for the secret. Once he reaches the portal in the entrance, four more watchers will appear while a Titan Watcher from the wall appears to throw its axes to Doug, but he manages to bypass them all anyway.

Chapter 4[]

Torment Therapy[]

Bierce warns Doug after obtaining the ring piece that the nightmare is collapsing, suggesting the watchers perish after completion of the level. However, they do appear in "Torment Therapy", suggesting that some of them actually managed to survive the collapse of their nightmare.

After Mascot Mayhem[]

A Gold Watcher spawns from Malak's clone as a nightmare at third portal, Deadly Decadence. He doesn't do anything except just stand there during the cutscene.

Abilities[]

Axe Proficiency[]

The Gold Watchers are able to utilize and wield axes very easily, as shown in their kill animations and a few of their poses.

Telepathy[]

Much like the Murder Monkeys, the Gold Watchers can always see Doug's general location, even while in his line sight.

Quantum-locking[]

As long as Doug isn't facing them, the Gold Watchers can move and respond incredibly quickly, only decreasing momentum the closer they get. The moment Doug does look, however, something seems to stop them in their tracks and force them into the last position they were in. They resume their previous speed once he stops looking.

Relationships[]

Malak[]

As Malak's creations, the Gold Watchers act as his servants. For this reason, they show enough respect towards Malak to not consider him a "peasant", and they will work in tandem with him in attacking enemies if needed.

Titan Watchers[]

While their general relation to them is unknown, it's implied that they serve those watchers second only to Malak, as during the boss fight they assist them in attacking Doug.

Reaper Nurses[]

Due to both being minions of Malak, the Gold Watchers seem to tolerate the Reaper Nurses just as they do vice versa, even having a tea party in their hospital without any interference.

Doug Houser[]

As with the rest of the victims they caught beforehand, the watchers treat Doug as a "peasant" of sorts, thinking of him as a lowly soul and, consequently, a threat to be killed and toyed with.

Againts Sora's Team[]

The Gold Watcher was present to help Xehanort gather greed based on Xehanort's orders, when he went there when he arrived there Garcia, and otherwas quite surprised that the Gold Observer's lair was like his house but bigger, Keiichi, Ren felt that something was wrong, as soon as Class 3-E felt that the house along with the garden full of traps, Fukuroi, Takamatsu, was quite surprised by the trap especially it turned out that the Gold Watcher was a statue of a French soldier that similar to Ninomiya Sontoku who wanted to kill them, when he came out it turned out that there was a giant size that made them want to fight, they survived then ran away, they thought that the statue is actually more sinister, especially gold watchers consider class 3-E to be a leak when they find out about them and their traps all over their manor and grounds, as it tests them every step they take that senses their footsteps and laughter
