Alex the Lion (born as Alakay and simply known as Alex) is the protagonist of Madagascar franchise, serving as a protagonist in Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and the first film's online prequel series Madagascar: A Little Wild. He also serves as the major character of the specials and the minor character of the short films and the Penguins of Madagascar movie.
