Akira Otori is a rookie member of the South Sector.
He used to be a delinquent, but after being saved by a hero from a fire, he aspired to become one due to admiration. He may be belligerent and short-tempered, but he also has compassion. He's the type to rush headfirst into something once he's made up his mind.
He's childhood friends with Ren and Will, with the latter often meddling with his affairs to this day. On the other hand, for certain reasons, he's unable to see eye-to-eye with his cousin Ren.
He's known Gast since his time as a delinquent.
Appearance[]
Hero Outfit[]
Casual Outfit[]
Akira is a young man with an average height and build. He has unkempt hair with long bangs that are swept back on the left side of his face, showcasing his 4 piercings. He has big green eyes and narrow eyebrows.
He wears his uniform messily, and doesn't bother to button up his shirt properly or tuck it into his pants. He has his sleeves rolled up, displaying the simple gold and silver bracelet he wears on his left wrist. He also forgets to wear a tie, probably because he is incapable of tying one as is revealed in The Great Gentleman's Ceremony. Instead, he lets his red undershirt show in its place. He wears Helios's signature medal on his left breast, and displays his rank through the medal on his right, which indicates that he's an A hero through its single star. On top of his shirt he wears a black and white belt with a chain attached to its left side. He sports brown dress shoes.
For his combat outfit, he wears the standard Helios training outfit with a bright red jacket on top. The jacket has green accents and displays his substance logo on the back. He wears fingerless gloves which have the same pattern as his jacket. Around his waist he sports a belt, attached to which is a small compartment box. His standard boots have red accents.
Personality[]
Energetic and always raring to go, Akira is almost always the loudest person in the room, and is frequently shouting out his catchphrase: voltage max! He has a tendency to act extremely rude, using coarse language and speaking without thinking, leading to him getting scolded by Will and his two mentors fairly often. He can be pretty inconsiderate, with Will being particularly familiar with his antics. He tends to forget about plans he's made with him, eat the food Will left for himself without asking, and make hurtful comments about Will's cooking. However, he never means to hurt anyone, and when he realizes he makes a mistake, he always tries to remedy the situation (in Will's case, he makes sure to buy some of his favorite Japanese sweets). He tends to rush forward without sweating the details, which leads him to ignore protocols while working or forget to submit important documentation, such as his plan for his New Year's special in HAPPY NEW YEAR SHOW! His unyielding personality causes him to be a danger to himself sometimes, as he relentlessly tries to master Overflow, which is a hero's ability to push their power past its limits, at the cost of it acting up against the yielder. The fact that he's quick to act can be a heroic trait of his, however, such as when he jumped out of a boat to save a struggling Will in Midsummer Survival Island.
Despite his faults, Akira is extremely compassionate when it comes to his comrades and citizens alike. He worries about Will's strange behavior in Spring Has Sprung! Happy Easter and actively works to try and mend Will and Gast's troubled relationship. He expresses concern over Ren falling ill in Melting Moon, and shows faith in Ren's strength no matter the circumstances. In SNOW TRICK VACATION, Akira declares that he (along with Will and Oscar) will do all the planning for the Christmas League so that Brad can take a break. Furthermore, Akira agrees to help the citizens living on the mountain out with a mysterious animal that's been ravaging their food, despite already being extremely busy.
Akira acts extremely full of himself, referring to himself as the "Genius Akira Otori-sama". He always tries to proclaim himself as the best in any situation, such as saying that South Sector will definitely earn 1st place in the Sector Ranking now that he's there, or calling himself the "#1 Hero You'd Want to Have on a Deserted Island". For this reason, he's also extremely competitive; for example, he proclaimed Oscar as his rival when they first met, and tries to make everything a competition between the two of them. Despite his seemingly overbearing self-confidence, he can act rather insecure at times. In The Great Gentleman's Ceremony, Akira tells Brad that things like formal attire don't suit him, and Brad realizes that some scathing comments from Marion made him self-conscious. He also worries about how he started wanting to be a hero later than his friends. However, he always pulls through his anxieties with the desire to prove himself and show how he's grown. Since he first got admitted as a hero, Akira has worked on developing his manners and patience, leading to his fellow South Sector affiliates acknowledging his growth.
Family[]
History[]
Akira grew up in Red South Street, and was close friends with Will and Ren. The three would always play together, and Akira and Ren would pray that Will's poor health would improve. However, 6 years ago, a member of Eclipse happened upon Ren's family as they were out enjoying Christmas Eve, and brutally killed them as Ren watched from where he had run ahead. Akira's family took him in to watch over him, and started to pour most of their attention into helping him feel better. Will too would begin to prioritize Ren's grim mental state, and would ignore Akira even when he came over to visit, focusing solely on Ren.
Feeling hurt from his family and friends ignoring him, Akira started to act openly hostile towards his family, Will, and Ren, and make light of their goals to become heroes. He would take to the streets, becoming attached to Gast and soon joining his gang of delinquents. At some time during his stint as a delinquent, he ran into Siams fighting some Academy students and beat him up in turn.
One day, roughly 4 years ago, one of Akira's fellow delinquents was fooling around with a cigarette, and started a huge fire, from which Akira was the only person who was unable to escape. However, just as he began to lose all hope, a mysterious hero appeared and saved his life. Inspired by his dashing savior, Akira resolved to become a hero at once, and joined the Academy together with his friends Ren, Will, and Gast. Will, however, would grow overprotective of Akira and began to despise Gast, due to feeling guilty over Akira's incident. Akira, despite struggling with school, managed to graduate from the Academy and become a part of Helios's 13th generation of heroes.
