Akira Himegami is the main protagonist of Towa no Yūgure.
Appearance[]
Akira is a handsome lean young man with short brown hair. He has short green eyes. He wears a dark blue and white headband around his forehead. He wears a red poncho-style top with white patterns in lines and gold linings. On his right arm, he wears a red wrist ribbon. His left wrist wears a blue bracelet. He wears a turquoise earring on his left ear. Around his waist, he wears a black sash tied with a light blue cord featuring a red bead. He wears white hakama pants.

Akira was born sometime in 2020. When he was a child, he was involved in a car accident that claimed the lives of both of his parents. As his parents were both estranged from their own families, Akira had no relatives around to take him in. Instead, he was offered to live with a friend and colleague of his father, Dr. Kazuya Omaki. Dr. Omaki also had a daughter, Towasa Ōmaki, who was a year older than Akira and became his "older sister." By high school, Akira excelled in athletics and did fairly well in academics. He had an interest in computer science and wanted to help with the career of Towasa, who was a certified genius. Around this time, they grew to have feelings for one another and became informally engaged.
Around this time, the idea of androids seemingly replacing human lives, an idea pioneered by Towasa, was heavily scrutinized by the public. Akira attended a conference where Towasa introduced the Life Concept Project to the public before a gunman appeared on stage and attempted to assassinate Towasa. Akira rushed to her aid, where he is seemingly fatally shot in the back three times before passing out.
Arriving in the Future[]
Akira awakens from a cryostasis pod after a recent earthquake had knocked out the power that powered his pod. He is taken in by a group of villagers based in Hakodate and learns of the current world situation, where technology is seemingly outlawed and overseen by the organization OWEL. After a villager reports his presence to OWEL, Akira comes face to face with OWEL general Percusus Caniss, who threatens to kill the villagers. With no way out, Akira is rescued by Yūgure, an battle android girl with Towasa's face, who then proceeds to kill the OWEL soldiers and Caniss with extreme firepower. They return to the area where Akira's pod was, and he finds a audio recording from Towasa to him, stating how she committed sins and wanted to repent for them. The recording was dated 2057, which was 200 years ago at that point. They also encounter Yoiyami and Hakubo, two androids also with Towasa's face. Regardless, Akira sets out to find Towasa and get answers.
On their way to Tokyo, Akira and Yugure run into Amoru, a young girl with a talent for art. She was in possession of a storybook, which is outlawed by OWEL. Amoru takes them to Mount Osore, where she ambushes them with an OWEL squad, revealing that she was a Letogian, or slave with some commodites provided by OWEL. She sold them out with the promise that general Marlum, the commanding OWEL officer would return the storybooks he confiscated, which were drawn by Amoru's parents. However he burns them in front of her, and despite Yugure able to escort Akira to safety, Akira decides to turn back and rescue her.
